The Riesenrad Ferris Wheel - It's Enormous
If you go anywhere near to the Prater amusement park you will be able to see the enormous Riesenrad Ferris Wheel. You can actually see it from miles away. It's pretty old though - more than 100 years in fact, although it did need to be rebuilt after WWII. The Riesenrad Ferris Wheeli s around 65 metres in height and this means that when you get to the top, you can be sure of a good view, better than good. The cabins are wooden and do creak a little.

The Kunsthistorisches Gallery on the Maria Theresienplatz
The art gallery contains a large private collection of Archduke Ferdinand II (and some others). These imperial paintings date from the Habsburg dynasty. Many famous artists feature stongly, like Rubens, Titien and Van Dyck, so as you can imagine, it was quite a memorable afternoon.

Love Opera, Love Vienna
Austria has produced some of the world's greatest composers and music has alway been a very important part of Vienna. The State Opera House is called the Wiener Staatsoper and is one of the world's most important. Various price bands are available, but as you would expect, the best seats come at a price. There is a clever translatin device on the back of the seats if like me, you want to know what's going on. The Staatsoper is on the Hanuschgasse, in the heart of Vienna.
